Jugtown T-Shirts

Jugtown T-Shirts

$35.00

T-Shirt featuring a photo of Bobby Owens, Charles Moore and Vernon Owens. In the 1990’s we had some shirts made with this photo, to commemorate an exhibition. Since then, many folks have requested another run of shirts, and we thought 60 years since this picture was taken would be a good time to do this.

On the front is the Jugtown stamp and 1917; the year Jugtown was founded. The back features a photograph, taken by Al Powers in the summer of 1962, of Bobby Owens, Charles Moore, and Vernon Owens. Al captured the spirit of Jugtown in this classic photograph. This was a critical time for Jugtown; John Mare had purchased Jugtown from Juliana Busbee and had the pottery running with Vernon as potter, Bobby and Charles mixing clay, glazing, and working with Vernon firing kilns. Juliana died in March of 1962 and John died in August of 1962. This photograph was shot shortly before John Mare’s death. After John passed, Vernon leased the pottery from John Mare’s estate, and Al Powers, John’s assistant and partner, guided Vernon and Jugtown into a new era. Vernon, with guidance from Al, and with Bobby and Charles working with him, was a force that understood Jugtown and kept it alive through the 1960s.
